The Monotricat hull has technical features
that allow us to define a new type of boat:

COMFORT IN NAVIGATION obtained from:

 •  More space on board (greater width up to 40% compared to the aaverage)

 •  Greater stability (both static and dynamic) due to the greater width

 •  Improvement of sea keeping due to the wave-piercing bow

 •  Reduced noise levels due to lower engine power requirements compared to similar boats

HIGH EFFICIENCY: The hull has an almost linear resistance curve. Due to the recovery of the energy contained in the bow wave, it is efficient even at intermediate speed regimens (semi-planing or semi-displacement), unlike the displacement hulls when they exceed the critical speed (FnVol > 0.4), and the planing hulls when they are not yet on the plane without full hydrodynamic support (FnVol < 2).

For example, for a hull of 23mt, the speed range from 13 to 23 kn is covered, which is currently not covered by conventional hulls.  You can thus have a comfortable yacht with limited power as a displacement yacht, ie a cheap yacht in the purchase, management and consumption, but with higher top and cruising speed, and reduced power, purchase- and running- costs).

VERSATILITY:  keeping a high hydrodynamic efficiency for a wide speed range more extended than a conventional hull (an almost linear resistance curve). This allows to use the yacht with the most different engines always obtaining good performance and the maintenance of its peculiar characteristics.

In addition, electric engine can also be used on the Monotricat hull.

The innovative shapes of the Monotricat hull, protected by an international patent, despite being of a displacement type, allow navigation even at speeds well above the traditional displacement hulls and with the same layout and comfort of navigation, without the need to install engines of great power necessary for a planing hull.

These results were achieved after lengthy and in-depth studies and rigorous checks at the experimental institutes of the Naval Engineering Department of the University of Trieste and the INSEAN - CNR Naval Bath Institute of Rome.

The innovative architecture of this hull, characterized by unusual shapes, allows greater stability, comfort during navigation, high performance, thanks to features such as:

the innovative wave-piercing bow shape (comfort with wave motion), form that allows to maintain a sustained speed even in the presence of adverse weather conditions, as, instead of trying to follow the movement of the waves, it passes through ;

the constant attitude at all speeds, practically horizontal, which makes the installation of trim regulators (flaps) superfluous;

the L / B ratio from 3 to 3.6 which determines a high stability of the platform and large spaces on board of more than 20% compared to other naval units of equal length;

the possibility of exceeding the speed limits typical for the displacement hulls without having to install super-powerful engines typical for planing hulls, with a consequent reduction in the purchase and operating costs, lower CO2 emissions and less pollution, less internal space for the engines and therefore even greater usable spaces;

the expansion of the speed range allowed by the conveyance under the aft zone of the bow wave formation for the wave-piercing bow shape, obtaining at the same time a decrease in the wave forms, with a lower energy requirement and a high hydrodynamic yield which makes a low engine;

the accelerated water flow that reaches the engines increases their efficiency, increasing, compared to the traditional hull shapes, the propeller / hull efficiency;

the characteristic flat bottom in the stern area allows the installation of Pod type propulsors as well as hydro jets;

the conveyance under the hull of the spray associated with the bow waves allows to considerably reduce the viscous resistance of the hull itself in the whole speed range.

The reduction of engines compared to planing units offers the advantage of lower consumption, lower environmental pollution due to exhaust gases, which means respect for the environment; reduction of purchase and management costs, as the hull Monotricat for its shape can be produced with a significant saving of money and time compared to any other boat or ship for the greater simplicity of construction in all its phases, offering more significant internal volumes for equal performance.

There are wide possibilities of design to which the Monotricat hull lends itself for the greater spaces on board inside and outside compared to other types, which make it possible to various and diverse preparations with the most varied solutions for: ferries, yachts, fast boats, coastguards, patrol boats, merchant navy, freight transport, etc., depending on the specific needs of use.

The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport - Department for Transport, Navigation and General Affairs, General Directorate for Supervision of Port Authorities, Port Infrastructures and Maritime Transport and Internal Waterways, with PEC communication of the 1 August 2018 (M_INF.VPTM.OFFICIAL REGISTER. U.0020653.01-08-2018 Prot. DGVPTM / DIV.4 / MM), has certified the suitability of the Monotricat hull for the renewal of the fleet of naval units for transport services local maritime public and for the construction of passenger ferries based on the certification of the CNR and the University of Trieste about the ability of this naval architecture to reduce the viscose friction resistance of water, and therefore the possibility for those who use the Monotricat hull to access the Funds allocated in Budget Law for the renewal of the fleet of units naval.

For the XIII Award "Best Practices for Innovation" 2019 - edition "Connect to Innovate", organized by Confindustria Salerno and BluAct with the support of Sviluppo Campania and Salerno Chamber of Commerce at the Salerno Maritime Station on 5 and 6 December 2019, which involved public authorities, stakeholders, entrepreneurs and innovators (100 projects and 16 case histories, 47 companies and 69 university startups / spin-offs coming from 12 regions) for the awarding of the most innovative projects and the most virtuous entrepreneurial cases, with in order to promote synergies in Italy and abroad by creating an international innovation ecosystem, for the Section Economy of the Sea the first Prize was awarded to the company Monotricat srl with the motivation: “for the development of the high efficiency naval hull Monotricat intended for shipowners and shipyards for the construction of pleasure boats, ferries and patrol boats. Innovation allows energy savings and consumption reduction of about 20% ".
